Cell Biology
Cell biology research in the program encompasses a broad range of studies that overlap in some cases with the other disciplines of the program. For example the work of Dr. Schulze studies
molecular aspects of divalent cation transport by both eucaryotic and procaryotic systems. Dr. Feldman studies the molecular biology of lymphoid, erythroid, and myeloid differentiation and activation. An important aspect of this work is the identification of the novel cellular signals that determine developmental fates within specific cell lineages. Dr. Kalvakolanu studies transmembrane signals mediated by the IFN-g receptor and the Jak/Stat pathways that are activated. Also part of this group, Dr. Hassel studies molecular mechanisms responsible for the biological activities of interferons.
